Perhaps you noticed it in my Flickrstream. My burgeoning collection. The teacups. Where my interests in tea, British food, English television programming (culture!), and digging through thrift stores intersect.
Someone [a friend who knows me quite well] recently asked, "Doesn't the thrifting conflict with your effort to get rid of your shit?" Errr well... Shutup... Stupid friends knowing me so well and caring enough to voice their concerns...
I was more surprised that she is actually reading this blog. (I'm constantly surprised that anyone is. It's not like I make any effort to get the word out.) My real answer to her question was that it's not a matter of having fewer things. I mean, it is, but the real goal is to be more thoughtful in curating the things I live with. I don't need to wade through waist-high piles of old receipts and old account statements. That's the sort of thing I need to get rid of. Those and pants that flare even slightly at the bottom. These are straight-leg times and I'm tired of looking at photos of myself from six years ago only to realize I'm still wearing the same shirts and hoodies.
As for constantly being questioned by the people around me, a woman at a yard sale yesterday asked, "Are you actually going to use these teacups?" Sure, why not?
Afternoon teas are where it's at for showing off the collection.

Now let's look at an assortment of cakes, scones, little sandwiches, and china from afternoon teas enjoyed with friends over the years. (Please provide your own soundtrack.)

Soundtrack? I'd probably use this, which I picked up in the Tower of London gift shop.
I'm going to have to thrift hunt a teacup and saucer set for you!
