I know that Empirical's Flickr friends don't often visit the blog and that the blog readers don't look at the photos much. Here's a heads up to the blog fans: this photo has been getting a good response (Click the thumbnail on the left for a better look). Surprising to me. It's pretty random--something I found while going through the archives searching for something unrelated.
Last year February, c-note and I ditched a day of work to travel the local [Inland Empire & SGV] sections of Route 66. This wasn't a huge significant thing since we both grew up pretty close to it. I actually know it more commonly as Foothill Boulevard. It's useful for getting around but not all of it is as fabulous as it's made out to be in song and film.* We hit Pomona and rather than continue toward The Donut Man, I suggested we turn off and head to the Arts Colony in time for dinner . It was just before dusk when we arrived so we walked around and took some photos. There were many people gathered, not far from the Glass House, and all looking skyward. Two huge swirling black clouds of birds. Don't know how or why, but the birds were there and so was I. Check it out on Flickr.
* Some of the Route's charm has been preserved. You will remember the Empirical Road Trip earlier this year, another traveling companion and I were on or alongside Route 66 and some of it was very cool. Gallup, NM and Amarillo, TX were the highlights for sure.

I don't remember seeing any. It was so long ago though. I remember eating a pizza afterward. And chainsmoking.
