Mystified by the Westside.

I have a friend in Palms--the last time I was in the area, I remember being really easily turned around. All of a sudden it's hilly. All the buildings look the same. The streets are unfamiliar. I still don't fully comprehend this--we once parked several blocks away from her place and I swear we walked for at least 20 minutes from car to front door. And this is typical she says.

I naively suggest that more people should be using public transit.

Empirical trekked to WLA today to visit some family. Nothing could be more confusing. Again, confused by the streets. Out here in the Empire, you just need to find the major throughfares to get to either the 10 or 60. And if you have a better idea of what you're doing, use the 71. Knowing the 15 is also helpful. In WLA, every street is a major one. And the freeways are much older so the exits and entrances are old constructs that are not always easy to spot.

One thing I noticed though, the food smells just riding around in WLA are really great. Even if it looks like nothing but a bunch of warehouses and nothingness, someone unseen is sauteing something.

Major roads used today: 10, 60, Centinela, National, Bundy, 71, Mission Blvd (Pomona).

Alls I knows is everyone living in Palms tries to say they live in Culver City nowadays.

I've noticed that too!

On the flipside, my cousins grew up in Culver City during the 70s-80s, but I never heard of "Palms" until very very recently.
