I jokingly used the term "Trapper Keeper" in conversation and realized the person I was talking to had no idea what I was talking about.
"Uh, it's from the 80s; a 3 ring binder but with an extra flap and velcro...Riiip, flap, flap...flap flap, close [said while miming the opening and closing of a Trapper Keeper]."
Silence.
"Oh, and the rings are plastic. Slide, slide [opening and closing the binder]. No? Before your time?"
I look around the room. Confused looks. All the older people went to lunch without me.
Goddammit!!!!!
Note: Apparently they still sell them, but they are made to last now. In my book, if it's not vinyl and doesn't tear by October, it's not a Trapper Keeper.

No kidding...and my favorite one had a tabby kitten on the cover. Then there were multiple Lisa Frank incarnations I'm sure there was some MJ...and of course it all went in my Espirit bag!
At Brian Saur's wedding recently, EVERYTHING was in a trapper keeper. I mean, the reverend read his notes out of one, the karoake songs were on paper inside of Trapper Keepers. There were like 3 Trapper Keers at that wedding.
You're not alone. I remember them, never owned one. I was more of a 6 Pee-Chee folder guy because I liked drawing on the people during Spanish class.
Yes, we're old.
