Baking fails

Remember that lemon yogurt cake I made for Mother's Day? Yeah, that one came out perfectly, but I tried making another one this evening and it was a complete disaster! Why? I didn't have a printed out recipe on hand. I should have known better than to use only my smartphone's browser set to that blog post.

Mise en place is essential. Having the printed recipe handy is also essential. These baking failures are becoming more and more common for me. I'm rushing the process. Patience! This could be discouraging, but it isn't. I'm more determined than ever to make a decent cake. I'm giving it another run tomorrow. That means another visit to the shops for ingredients. That means I'm going to have way too much cake (with varying levels of success) on hand. Don't care. There's no way I'm going to let a simple cake recipe get the better of me.

Can anyone suggest tips for improving focus? I don't seem to have any lately.

UPDATE: I'm going to throw this cake away. It doesn't look right. It doesn't taste right. I thought the yogurt was okay, but now I have doubts. It's a waste, but better safe than sorry.
