Cookie Padawan.

I live in a Festivus household. This year I'm attempting a Star Wars Christmas. (Yeah, I'm being mostly serious.) I begin with the baking. OMG. This is way too elaborate for my first time out, even without attempting royal icings. I haven't made shaped cookies since junior high home ec and I didn't have much luck with it back then either.

Drop cookies for me, are a breeze. I have different sized scoops and I've got the technique--it's very basic. Shaped cookies are a different thing altogether. My process begins with accumulating more ingredients than usual. More equipment than usual. Cleaning off more workspace. Different dough. At one point, I find myself, sleep-deprived, cranky, in Target looking at different rolling pins. I buy tiered cooling racks. I buy sprinkles.

Tonight was experimentation night. Technique technique. It's all about technique.

I don't have it.

Maybe keeping the dough cold and not touching it too much while you work and roll it out might be part of this kind of cookie making? I took a fun/silly baking class with Spam and all we did was make xmas cookies and we felt sick after class from eating so many cookies.

I wanna Yoda cookie, FOR SURE PLEASE
