Gone.

When I send an email (Gmail), as soon as I start typing out a name or an address on computer or my phone, it begins to autocomplete. And usually it works out pretty well and saves me the trouble of opening my contacts list (which I hate doing). The other day though, I tried sending a friend [that I know primarily through Flickr and Twitter] a message and nothing popped up. Strange. Opened the dusty contacts list files...something is not right.

There's about, I don't know, sixty names there? Maybe seventy. On an account I've had since 2005? Now I know I've emailed this fellow before. No trace of him now. Start to notice other notable people are missing from address book and IM list. What happened?

I'll tell you what happened. When I bought the new fancy cellphone (by this I mean smartphone) in June(?) it autosynced my address books. In the process I lost what must be at least 50% of the entries. Great job! I didn't notice until this week because apparently I only talk to the same few people day to day. I just lack the finesse and experience in working a fancy phone because I never had one. I don't know what I did. I know I fucked up. That is all I know. Also that throwing the instructions away is a mistake I will continue to make for the rest of my life.

Sorry to the people that got dropped. I'll be rebuilding my lists in the meantime. Hope you are well. We should catch up (obviously)
