We began the day by taking the train out to Los Angeles from the North Pomona station. It's undergoing some renovations now and we were going to miss our ride. The train turned out to be behind schedule but somehow still made it to our destination exactly on time. The ride was very relaxing and surprisingly scenic. Something about seeing Baldwin Park from up high; the jacarandas are in bloom.
After having this lunch twice now, I can say the cakes are whatever. The sandwiches though, I like those a lot. There's something about little sandwiches. I dunno, it's one of my favorite things
This is a cute drip catcher.
I'm not a big darjeeling fan, but they were out of my assam. I was basically just trying one of the other hundred teas they had in stock. I would have tried another pot of something, but I was feeling fidgety after this one. Maybe not so bad after all.
Through the miracle of fancy cell phones, we were able to determine that the Coolhaus truck was within walking distance. Though we were all stuffed, we decided that the Coolhaus truck is rarely ever within walking distance or ever in the Little Tokyo part of Downtown Los Angeles.
So why not?
Here's the menu.
You pick your cookies, choose a filling, they make the ice cream sandwich. I knew I wanted the Orange Julius Shulman sorbet. I asked the Haus guy what cookies would match. Chocolate? Let's do it. So here's a tribute to architect Julius Shulman--the best tasting tribute I've ever eaten. It also seems worth mentioning that the guy working the Coolhaus truck was very helpful and good-looking. It needs to be noted somewhere. Why not here.
Our nerdiness about fancy cell phones grows by the day. We spent some time taking cell phone pics of ice cream sandwiches. That's pretty nerdy.

From here ai pohaku and I tried to catch a film screening as part of the L.A. Film Fest which led us on an adventure that I'll have to detail in another post. Gotta go now. I need to see if there is any ice cream in my freezer.
