Naw, I'm Japanese American. We do New Year's celebrations on the 1st, not by lunar calendar. We watch some kohaku though often they're all just watching football. We eat osechi, and everyone's favorite ozoni. I don't understand all the traditions, but it's familiar.
On the other hand the Lunar New Year is a complete mystery to me. I only know there are red lanterns and firecrackers. And people light incense. I know there's cash in those red envelopes.
Oh well. So how did I celebrate this weekend? The only way I know how... I watched some late 1970s Shaw Brothers kung fu movies at home (though this was more so to cap off a week of listening to quite a bit of Wu Tang Clan) and dim sum.
They wrapped up the construction project [a long time ago, actually] in the NBC parking lot in Monterey Park. So we went there. Here are a few photos. If you like these photos, you should check out my "Dim Summing" photo set on Flickr.

Faceless cart pusher. She's a hero but the place was jammed with new year crowd.
Push faster, pls!

This tofu thing on the left is usually only okay and I keep ordering it hoping it will be better.
Yesterday was the day. Good textures. Good sauce.
Pork bun is always good. They're making these smaller--that's a little disappointing.

We always get broccoli.
The one in the background is the one with chopped nuts in it. CRONCHCRONCH...

Essentially fried mochi. I never used to get this but now I can't end the meal without.
I dig these sesame balls. Usually they have some kind of bean in them but the ones with black sesame coating usually have ground black sesame inside. And the green ones of course are filled with awesome.
