I shot you, Stranger.

Mom Empirical was looking at some of my photos and asked, "How can you just take someone's photo without permission?"

Actually, it was this photo in particular that got her wondering...

I dunno. It's a free country, right? I find that some people like the attention. This dude's smiling right at me...

When I was traveling across the country last year with the video camera, very few people shied away from the lens. Only one guy on my travels was totally against it; I think he was afraid I'd misuse his words for some liberal propaganda. On the other end of the spectrum, a lady at a gas station in Arkansas shouted at me, "Me! Me! Over here! I wanna be in your movie!" So I put her on camera and she talked and talked.

Here are some people who love the camera.

Ok, I asked Kid & Play guy to pose so I can get a better shot of his shirt.
Other guy just posed with for fun. Technically that's not asking for permission.

I'm pretty sure Hutch knew I was "press" and turned the smile on.
Looks good! He should smile often.

This guy in costume just saw me holding a camera and posed.
Then he waited for me to take the camera out of the case and turn it on.

This shop owner [I forgot her name!] and I were talking root beers.
I asked her for a recommendation.
People are friendlier and more helpful than we realize.

People can be WAY to sensitive about this kind of thing. I couldn't care less if someone takes me photo in a public place. What's the worst thing that could happen?
In some places
it's a bit more tricky, however.
