Nerd Projects.

There's nothing I love more than collecting things, if only to catalog them. I've always been that way. Every project I've ever mentioned here on Empirical has its own set of records. Maybe a list. Maybe a spreadsheet. Maybe even an elaborate database. I have built databases for fun.

Here is the latest...I've been picking up matches for awhile. Ever since I began smoking which was years ago. [I don't smoke now. At least, not regularly.] I also inherited/adopted a bunch of matchbooks recently. Some are quite old. Vintage typefaces, styles and designs. I like old things and looking at history as a reference and I hate retro design(!) Rather than just let the matchbooks/matchboxes deteriorate any further, I've begun photographing them.

Right now the collection is a lot more vintage than recent. I'm photographing both a little at a time. I'm really pacing myself on this one. Giving the proper attention to each piece before it makes its debut on my Flickr set. I'll try to put a few photos up every day. If you are into collecting (even if they aren't matches), let me know in the comments or email; I don't have collector friends.
