The Empirical Visits CLIFTON'S CAFETERIA.

I was in Downtown Los very early Sunday morning [yesterday] for some familial matters so afterward my mom and I decided to check out breakfast at CLIFTON'S BROOKDALE CAFETERIA.

(Click photo to see the set.)

Three pancakes, 2 strips of bacon, scrambled eggs and I bought my mom the same breakfast. She had a coffee and I had a Diet Coke and a small bowl of orange Jell-O with canned peaches in it. Gosh. How do you make Jell-O taste so bad? The food was frightening. Still, the place was so cool. The decor was beyond what I could have hoped for. The upper level was closed but I sneaked up there anyway to nose around while my mom stood by downstairs as a lookout; I looked at everything I could get close to.

Who was there: homeless folks and/or elderly, Latino shoppers, pimps, and my mom and I. The staff were very nice--I can't stress that enough. Since I'd already paid the flat rate on parking, we took some time and explored the area even though the weather was pretty bad. The neighborhood is pretty gnarly, but I'm not a stranger to Los and talking to insane homeless people...and you know, like, holding hands with them and whatnot. That's a story for another time perhaps.

What was your second choice for food, if you hadn't gotten the breakfast?

I was planning on ordering the roast turkey with trimmings, but it was just too early in the day and they weren't carving yet. Next time!

Also next time instead of getting Jell-O with canned fruit, I'm getting the multi-color mini-cubes with no fruit.

Ooh I'd go just to check out the pimps. Btw, nice icons on the side!
