In fact, Montmartre was the first part of Paris we explored upon arrival in the France last year. And her cousin happened to park the car around the corner from the city block-sized vineyard described in the story. It was an odd sight to see in the middle of Paris and now I understand its significance. Being that it was October when kinije and I happened to be there, I now also understand the lively outdoor market taking place. The weather was a bit gloomy and damp, but it made for a nice climb through the steep neighborhood. The sun peeked through a few times and the view from the Sacré-Cœur Basilica was breathtaking and gave us an idea of the grandness of the city we were going to be spending the next week in.
We stopped into a crepe shop for a nice break and to get better acquainted with our hosts. A hot cup of coffee was perfect for that part of the afternoon when you can use a little pick-me-up. This happened to be the only crepe I had the entire time abroad—yet I was sifting through restaurant listings for them when I returned to the States. Maybe because it's just uncommon enough to require a person to actively seek it out that kept driving my interest. This Montmartre crepe was my introduction to Nutella [and banana]. I understand Nutella has a bit of a cult following. I do enjoy it from time to time in a crepe—I'm trying this little snacky item a little later on today.
Here are some photos from my walk through Montmartre
