A person that I idolized when I was a teenager, responded to something I said online. Her comment was sweet and a little self-deprecating. It was punctuated with a friendly emoticon. She's a totally ordinary person—this is the best response I could have hoped for. She wasn't insane or mean.
This is kind of how it feels to have a penpal situation with the ex-wife of an artist you like. I've done that too. Oh, I see it now. I'm the insane one.
