When it seems like all my pals are going up to Portland, Martin Ontiveros is coming down here to SoCal, for a few days at least, to be part of a group exhibit in San Diego. "Dia De Tus Muertos" at Subtext Gallery opens this Friday(!) and the theme is: remembering the dead and celebrating lost souls.
Martin's bringing 3 new paintings to blow your minds. Other artists involved with this show are: Israel Sanchez, Sandra Equihua, Amanda Visell, Lorelay Bove, Gerald de Jesus, Sadie Figueroa, Rhode Montijo, Simon Varela, and Jorge R. Gutierrez. Mr. Ontiveros vouches for them and their show's strength, "I've seen a preview of the stuff, it's going to be really fun."
SD friends, particularly ones with bare walls, go check this one out. Says Martin to the Empirical, "It's gonna rock."

Need your art fix closer to home? I've got the show for you in Orange County. Good friend of mine, Xenia Galaviz and husband Chris Galaviz, are making their respective gallery debuts together at "Free Thinkers Are Deadly" hosted by BTNC in Fullerton. Xenia does a lot of photo and lately Chris has been dabbling in paint. I can't confirm what either of them are bringing to BTNC as they have been keeping mysteriously tight-lipped about their work. A case of cold feet or are they planning an attack that will devastate all in attendance?
We'll find out soon enough. This one opens the following week, Friday, November 5.
