My Netflix Instant Streaming Disc for Wii arrived in the mail.
I was skeptical because my internet connections at home are a bit unreliable and slow. No, it works just fine. It also gave me a pretty good reason to dust off the neglected Wii.
I gave it a test run. I watched an episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain--the Osaka episode. I rewatched ACT 1 of Dr. Horrible. I watched the first 15 minutes of Kurt and Courtney.
The image quality is really varied. One thing might be really pixelated and ugly. The next title you pull up is sort of crisp. Nothing fantastic yet. Maybe with a better television? I know I could use an update.
The menus are really easy to navigate and DVD artwork is simple enough to flip through, but even titles I know I've marked as "not interested" continue to show up. And that's a bit irritating. I think when they build their Instant library, they can afford to let some titles drop from my views. As it is right now, I get Bugs Bunny and the Wiggles constantly suggested to me.
Anyway, bottom line: I like this service. Especially with the recent word about the United States Postal Service considering the idea of dropping Saturday delivery service. That's one less day of disc delivery. And it saves Netflix some money on postage and whatever they spend on printed envelopes. I've never had cable, so even if I end up using the streaming to just watch Anthony Bourdain, I could live with that.
