At the start of the month there was the not-very-well-known and awkwardly-named Fuck Yeah Fest Festival. I decided to go this time because I don't go to things like this as often as I'd like to. I was able to get the $20 ticket for less than $10. Plus it was easy to get to; FYF this year moved to Downtown Los Angeles, Chinatown-adjacent at 'the cornfield.' It was an event to benefit State Parks geared mostly toward very young local hipsters.
The crowd was overwhelmingly young. The only people older than my little group of friends and myself, were the parents (who DID look like they were having fun too). In line for pizza, the boys behind me were worried about how much the food would cost. One complained, "I bought this lemonade for $4 and it was all ice! I'm already done with it." $8 for a lemonade and a slice is pretty good I think, but I work full time and don't rely on an allowance.
Hipsters galore. Pretty formulaic. Everyone was dressed similarly. Tight jeans. Leggings. Silly hair. But then, we were inspired later to buy new shoes and leggings.
This event was so poorly planned, but it sure draws a crowd. It has a lot of potential. The lineup was pretty good and the FYF is still young. With more experience I think they'll be banging out some great Fests in the future. I still had a lot of fun. Made some new friends in the ridiculously long will call line.
Check out my photoset on Flickr! There aren't too too many photos, but check out a few shots of The Thermals, Mika Miko, Peanut Butter Wolf, Tim & Eric as Puss Whip Banggang, hipsters...
