I think it's funny how specific the recommendations are getting though not that much more appropriate.
But I say it knowing that my friend who works for the company as a genre specialist will read this [she's not in charge of the algorithms].
And she will probably advise me/everyone else to "Keep rating movies!"

I work for Netflix on the team that does movie recommendations and your recommendations will only improve the more you rate movies and especially rate movies you're rented and returned.
There are also "taste preferences" you can set, for certain genres and storylines - you will usually catch a link on your homepage that says "Your taste preferences say you are interested in..." Click that, and change your settings.
