Bootleg Salad.

Do you remember this salad?

Nancy's Chopped Salad.

It's the one we ate at Mozza. It was really good.
Here's something I wrote as a comment on another photo from the set

If you can afford to roll like this, you really should.

This is the most expensive lunch I've ever eaten; it cost more than the Mario Batali lunch I had in NYC. It will be a long time before I can do something like this again, but it was totally worth it.

If you get the chopped salad, your life will change. You will never have a salad as good--it may actually depress you.

I'm not kidding. You might see me sometimes--lost in thought--I'm thinking about this.

So I was at the market today strolling the aisles and I see a jar of deli sliced peperoncini. I'm holding a bag of pre-packaged salad at that point and I decide to put it back. I get a bag of romaine hearts instead. I will make this salad.

I won't kid myself. There's no way I can match Nancy Silverton's recipe. I only want to make something good enough to tide me over till the next time I can afford to go back. It'll be awhile. In the store, I had no idea what kind of dressing to use or make. I think Nancy's is some kind of oregano vinaigrette. I don't want to use bottled italian dressing. I make a sloppy vinaigrette with no oregano. No measurements. It's decent.

Here's what I used:
organic romaine hearts
aged provolone
soppresata
sliced peperoncini
white wine vinegar
sea salt
olive oil
dijon
brown sugar
cracked black pepper
sea salt

Did not use: can of garbanzos from pantry, tomatoes (don't have)

Maybe you should experiment with salad.
