Food on Clearance.

I don't usually check out the bargain bins at supermarkets because it's...I just don't. But with the price of everything rising--including food--I thought I'd take a glance. I was really surprised to see Murphy-Goode Merlot and 2007 SB in the racks at deep discount. I've been to the Murphy-Goode tasting room and as I recall, I didn't like a great deal of the reds. The whites were generally good and affordable. Passed on the merlot priced roughly 75% below retail at $6. Picked up the sauv blanc for $4(!)--I'd say it would usually sell for $10-12 depending on who's selling it. Looks like it was overstock. The white was done in the fume style. Citrusy, herbaceous. Sipping it solo right now after a heavy but smallish, Mexican dinner. Wouldn't be my first choice for a white, but for $4, why not?

Another find is a bottle of Trader Vic's Mai Tai mix, $2. No idea how much it usually costs as it's not something I would normally buy. Got that and a bottle of Myers's Dark which wasn't on clearance, but was on sale. The limes were expensive. Ah, I see how they can afford to sell some items so cheaply.

I want to go back and buy up the rest of the sb/fume.

Also not on clearance, but on sale, Horizon Organic yogurt. Cheaper than the big names. Gave that a whirl and bought a few flavors. It's only okay but I felt less guilty eating it than I would have eating the mainstream stuff. Being good to the cows and making a product responsibly are things I can get on board with. Would like to try an organic soy brand soon.
